The Glade
Welcome to The Glade
Westover Green Community School’s Inclusion Specialist Base
Every child. Every day. Every opportunity to belong, achieve and thrive.
The Glade is Westover Green Community School’s specialist inclusion provision for children with Social Communication and Emotional Regulation needs. We provide a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment tailored to meet the individual needs of every pupil.
Placements within The Glade are allocated by the Local Authority through the annual review process.
Our specialist provision caters for up to 24 pupils and includes three dedicated classrooms, a sensory room, a movement room, an outdoor sensory garden, and a kitchen area. These facilities enable us to deliver a personalised curriculum that supports communication, independence, sensory regulation, and social development.
Pupils in The Glade may access mainstream classes and wider school activities when appropriate, enabling meaningful inclusion opportunities. The balance between specialist and mainstream provision is carefully considered and regularly reviewed to ensure that each child’s educational experience reflects their individual strengths, needs, and aspirations. For many pupils, the majority of their education takes place within The Glade.
Our Classes
Pupils are organised into classes broadly according to their age and stage of development:
Oak Class (EYFS and Key Stage 1)
Led by Mrs A Catley, a highly experienced Early Years teacher with extensive expertise in supporting children with additional needs and delivering high-quality specialist provision.
Ash Class (Lower Key Stage 2)
Led by Ms E Green, who brings a wealth of experience in teaching and supporting children with a diverse range of learning needs.
Maple Class (Upper Key Stage 2)
Led by Mr S Gilberson, an experienced specialist teacher with over six years of expertise in autism education and inclusive practice.
Our teachers work closely with a dedicated and highly skilled team of support staff, including Mrs Costick, Miss Foster, Mrs Western, Mrs Rason, Mrs Roberts, Miss Stephens, and Mrs Vernon. Together, they provide consistent, personalised support to ensure every child is able to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
Visiting The Glade
To maintain the safe, calm, and predictable environment that is essential for our pupils, visits to The Glade are arranged outside of the school day. We are pleased to welcome prospective families and professionals after school hours and would be happy to discuss our provision and answer any questions you may have.
Every child. Every day. Every opportunity to belong, achieve and thrive. This commitment underpins everything we do at The Glade and guides us in supporting each pupil to flourish both in school and beyond
