We are a Reception class and we love learning.

Spring term
Court Farm
We took a fantastic trip to Court Farm where we observed first hand the start of Spring and the new life in the countryside. We met a lot of wonderful lambs, goats, pigs, cattle and horses. We even got to see a very speedy emu (who did not want to be photographed. We saw the cow being milked and Farmer Ed told us all about the farm. We were lucky with weather and so we even got to go and play outside on the fort and zipline. We had a lot of tired but happy children at the end of the day.

We’re going on a bear hunt.
On Thursday 8th January Explorers class went on a bear hunt around school. We had a great time walking through swishy, swashy grass, a deep dark forest and a swirling, whirling snowstorm amongst other things to find clues left by a famous bear. We found them all and then discovered the bear hiding in our playground. We had a great time and the children loved it. We would also like to say a huge thank you as we raised £620 which will go towards Explorers class trips. Please see some photos below.

Christmas
The children were amazing this Christmas. They learnt their songs for the Nativity and then performed it brilliantly over a number of performances. We were really proud of everyone.

RSPCA Visit
We were extremely lucky to have a visit from Alex from the RSPCA. She came to tell us about looking after our pets and also the wildlife in our gardens. She explained that our pets are very sensitive in the same way as we are. We talked about how we should help our animals when we have celebrations that involve fireworks as they often do not like the loud bangs. Alex explained it is good for pets to have a safe space where they can hide. We continued by looking at the animals in our garden such as hedgehogs, squirrels and rabbits and that we said that we should try to protect them as well.

Phonics lesson
The children did amazingly well at our recent phonics session. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend. If you would like to have a look at what the session was like please scan the QR code below which will take you to a model lesson by Miss Bunny showing how we teach ‘Unlocking letters and sounds’. This comes from the official ULS website. These codes can also be found in the children’s reading records.

Please also find a QR code below that shows you how the sounds are pronounced and the action which accompanies the individual sounds in Phase 2 of ‘Unlocking letters and sounds’.

NHS visit and Teddy Hospital
We were very lucky to have a visit from Mark Carter who works on behalf of the NHS and visits schools to explain all the roles that they have in caring for people. Mark explained what jobs doctors, nurses, dentists and paramedics do and how important each is to help keep us healthy. Mark then helped the children check how well their teddies and toys were by taking their blood pressure, temperatures and looking into their eyes and ears. All had a clean bill of health. Please see some photos below.

Training like a fire fighter
As part of our learning about ‘People who help us’ we trained to be fire fighters. We first carried out some fitness training. We warmed up with some exercises before we practised climbing and getting off of equipment safely. Finally we learned how to use a hose to put out fires. We had great fun.
