Every Voice Matters: Our Oracy Vision

We believe every child deserves to be heard. Oracy empowers children to:

• Speak confidently and express themselves clearly
• Listen actively and respond with empathy
• Develop emotional literacy and understand feelings
• Collaborate with peers through discussion and dialogue
• Engage with ideas respectfully and thoughtfully

From EYFS to Year 6, we build these skills progressively in safe, supportive environments, ensuring that all children — regardless of background — can access language, confidence, and opportunity.

Oracy is a powerful leveller and a vehicle for learning together. By valuing every voice, we prepare our children to leave school equipped to communicate effectively, think critically, and participate confidently in the wider world as thoughtful, reflective, and socially aware learners.

What does this look like in class?

All classes use Voice 21 strategies to deliver the curriculum. Discussion is used effectively to engage, explore and enhance learning. In class this is shown by:

Nesting Time to think. Shown by hands on heads.

Practice Say your answers into your cupped hands

Talk to Your Partner Speaking in pairs. Sentence Stems may support.

Trios Speaking in pairs. This might also include one member as a summariser to feed back to the class. 

Stand to Talk Children are encouraged to stand up to present.

Children focus on:

Instigating new thoughts and ideas.

Building on what others have said, justifying points.

Challenging ideas with opposing views that are carefully considered.
