Our first cohort of SCITT (School-Centred Initial Teacher Training) trainees has completed their initial teacher training.
In collaboration with Orange Moon Apprenticeships and Bradford SCITT, 20 aspiring teachers, 10 on the PGCE route and 10 on the PGTA apprenticeship route, have completed their training and been recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Placed across 14 schools, the trainees received full-time, in-school training since September, complemented by weekly network meetings and four intensive weeks focused on key teaching practices. An impressive 90% have secured roles within Futura schools, ready to begin their Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction.
The trainees were asked to reflect on the highlights of this year. Many appreciated the networking opportunities facilitated by Futura’s ITT coordinator, Lois Lambkin: “One of the most valuable aspects of the journey was building a strong support network with my peers; our connection made such a difference, and I’ve genuinely missed our Friday sessions since they ended!”
“The huge highlight for me has been the opportunities to experience other schools through teaching, observing and learning about Oracy, which has given me invaluable confidence and capabilities,” said one trainee. “I have learned to believe in myself. Thank you.”
For another trainee, it was developing self-belief: “The highlight of my year has been the empowering moment when I realised, ‘I can do this’. Gaining confidence in myself and my abilities has been truly transformative.”
