Talent, teamwork and nostalgia took centre stage at Wellsway School’s production of the comedy Teechers.
The play by John Godber captures the spirit and challenges of life in a working-class secondary school in the 1980s, following a group of students and their unconventional teachers.
It offered Wellsway’s drama department the opportunity to put on a show that captured the essence of the decade, with vibrant fashion, memorable tunes and excellent performances from a talented cast.
The packed audience of families and friends enjoyed the witty dialogue, which included memorable quotes such as, “If you don’t care, then why should I?” and “School’s a game, but nobody tells you the rules”.
Head of drama Rosemary Coles said: “We are so proud of the students. Their commitment and hard work has really paid off. It’s been lovely to see students from all year groups working together to put on such a fantastic production.”
Rhod Evans, curriculum director for PE and performing arts, said: “The performance not only entertained but also served as a beautiful reminder of the value of collaboration, creativity, and community within the arts.”
Isabelle Gamon, from Year 9, said: “It has given me an opportunity to really appreciate the drama teachers we have and that if you put work into something it can be amazing.”
Izzy Lowe, from Year 7, said: “It has been really fun doing the production and great that we could join in Year 7. I have enjoyed learning the dances and watching the acting, I have made new friends and will definitely do the next show:”
Iris Bevan, of Year 8, said: “I have loved the opportunity to play a lead role in the school show and to get to play such a fun character. I have also loved rehearsing with the whole cast and have made lots of new friends from all year groups!”
