Six Futura alumni from Wellsway School, IKB Academy, and SBL Academy received their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at a prestigious ceremony in Buckingham Palace Gardens earlier this month.
The ceremony featured inspiring speeches from public figures including Dr. Ranj Singh, James Fox, and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who shared her journey of overcoming adversity. Her message of resilience resonated with the DofE theme: Youth Without Limits.
Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, also spoke to the attendees, emphasising the importance of self-reliance and the expedition experience.
This special occasion also marked the retirement of Dave Sage, our long-standing DofE Manager. Since 2016, Dave has been the driving force behind a thriving DofE programme across several of our schools, inspiring hundreds of students to embrace challenge, adventure, and personal growth. This year alone, over 170 students are participating in Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels.
Students praised Mr. Sage’s impact, with Gold Award holders Lauren Askew and Kitty Brenden saying, “He made doing the award as a team feel like a family.” Roan Turner added, “Despite awful conditions, we loved every minute. Mr Sage was always there with a smile.”
Headteacher Mr. Pearsall shared, “Dave’s quiet leadership and unwavering support have left a lasting impression on our school community.”
Although stepping down, Mr. Sage will continue to support students and promote outdoor learning. His legacy will inspire future generations to strive for excellence and seize every opportunity.
